Pirates!

Amiga game review, ADF downloads, screenshots, ratings and insights
Originally released on the Commodore 64 (C64) and setting the gaming world afire with cannon powder, Sid Meier's Pirates! was ported to the Amiga an incredible three years later. But the wait was worth it, mateys. The addictive game received a decent graphics upgrade and much improved sound.

Pirates! offers a timeless masterpiece on several fronts: an insanely large world (of which some memorized the Caribbean isles better then they ever thought they would, thanks to this game); sword fighting action sequences; "choose your own adventure" graphic adventure-style flows including various flags you can fly over your ship; the historical anecdotes and atmosphere helped to illustrate the time period for many better than most books or movies set at the same time, with a seriousness most other mediums lack.

This is the kind of game that one could spend days, weeks, or months playing and continue to find value in each adventure. An al-time classic.

Back of the box:
Pirates! is a dramatic simulation of 17th century life on the Spanish Main and you are cast in the leading role as Privateer Captain. Leap into an era of turbulence and change a time when fabulous fortunes can be won and lost.

Extensive graphics enable you to navigate across the Caribbean, slipping in and out of ports as opportunities arise. Decide when to raid treasure-laden galleons and when to put your crew ashore to plunder towns. Learn to fence with a rapier, longsword and cutlass. And, at all costs, maintain morale on ship to avoid a mutiny.

To succeed in this adventure you must choose the most lucrative expeditions, forge the most fruitful alliances and negotiate the greatest profits. If you've got the skill and strength of character to do so, you'll achieve your goals - wealth, power, prestige, even romance.

Pirates! A challenging combination of history, adventure and intrigue.
