Does anyone know of anyone who does repair work in the US? I have an A600 that needs the IDE header replaced as mine has some missing pins and also have an A1200 that needs the pcmcia port replaced, it has bent pns. It also needs to be recapped. The A600 was recently recapped by the guy I bought it from in the UK.

Most people try to go through Paul Rezendes when they've got work for hire. But he's on a "work stoppage" for the rest of this year and likely the beginning of 2019. Sounds too maxed out. But it never hurts to ask if you can get in line somewhere.

I'm not sure about others that promote themselves in the way Paul does in the U.S.

I do some repairs and recaps, on a case by case basis. I have no desire to be everyone's "go-to guy" like Paul does. The PCMCIA is going to be expensive, though, as the port COST is about $40-50. I usually use the shrouded, box type of connectors for the IDE header, instead of just bare pins, which cost a little more (almost $5 each) but reduce the possibility of bending pins again or inserting the cable incorrectly. I use Panasonic hybrid aluminum electrolytic caps, which are also more expensive, but, you'll be good for another 20-30 years before there's even a possibility of leakage again. How does the board look? Any dulled solder joints on other components near the existing caps? Does the audio and composite video work properly?

I have all the proper equipment to do it (hot air station, vacuum desoldering gun, good irons, solder, and flux).

I think Paul is taking on work again. He has done a fair amount for me, and has asked me to pass on his name. Of course, if Obitus want to tackle the job that would be awesome too. Obitus - If you are not a member of the Commodore Amiga group on Facebook be sure to join there and promote your services. People are always asking for help with hardware repairs.

Paul has been my mentor for the past year or so. I went from never having used a soldering iron in 2016 to building an A4000 replica board from the ground up in 2018 by picking his brain over the last 2 years.

Hi Obitus, thanks for the reply. I would like to get my A600 going again first. I just bought a Furia accelerator for it and got to use it all of one day before I tried to change out the IDE cable and pins came out with the cable. It had a 1 inch cable in it and the sd card was getting too hot from being too close to the furia's heatsyncs.

How much would you charge to fix the IDE port on it? It has been recently recapped and was working great with the furia before this happened.

I am in Arkansas so you aren't that far away. if you are in LA. You can PM me if you'd like and thanks again.

Tim

Please send me photos of the area via PM, preferably of both the top and bottom side of the board. Thanks!

Ok, I'll do that later tonight when i get home. I have a replacement pcmcia connector I ordered a while back when I was considering doing it myself but never did try. I have also ordered a couple of 44 pin ide headers, 2 with the border around them and 2 without as is on the board from the factory. I just ordered them yesterday and don't have them in my possession yet but should in a few days.

A600 arrived for replacement of the IDE port yesterday, and swapping out the 2.0 ROM for a new 3.1.4 one. Both were replaced last night, and, it is being mailed back today. You should get it on Monday, according to USPS. Thank you, Tim.
