Hi there. I am an Amiga enthousiast from The Netherlands with a keen interest in technology and UX-design. My first encounter with the Amiga was in 1985 in Aachen, Germany. I was 11 years old at the time. I saw this wonderfull machine, an A1000. It had an immediate appeal. 2 years later my parents bought an Amiga A500 for me and my brother. Soon all my friends also bought one. Those were the days wih Deluxe Paint II, doing my homework on I believe, Wordcraft. But the real stuff was off course gaming with oneĀ“s friends: Defender of The Crown, Test Drive, Kick Off, Sensible Soccer, Silkworm, Super Hangon, Operation Wolf, Ik+, Battle Squadron. Up to this day there still are no games that can reach the level of playability and appeal the Amiga games had, nor the graphical sophistication and distinct style of that era.

At university it was first PC and then Mac, but I still missed the days of Amiga. It was just such an integrated complete machine with much thought put into it in hindsight, immediately tangible for the user. I kept the nostalgia alive by emulating an A500. This year I decided to buy the machine that sparked my interest in computing and bought an Amiga A1000 PAL. I will need some help getting stuff up to snuff. Cheers!

Welcome, rmookhram! What an awesome journey with the Amiga you've had over the years. And congrats on the A1000. It's one of my personal favorites, even if it's a bit forgotten these days by many in the Amiga community. She was not the most sold, but she was the first (and the prettiest IMO). I rather enjoy still using floppies with my 1000's although it's much more bearable when there is some sort of HDD option.

That's where things can get a little tricky. But it can be done.

If you were an A500 guy back in the day, you'll be used to a lot more chip RAM, too - which is not an easily solvable problem with the 1000 (especially the PAL version, as there is no "rejuvenator" for it to my knowledge). But I'm willing to be for most of your games listed, she'll do just fine. If anything, you'll want a little fast RAM.

Hi rmookhram. Congrats on getting an A1000. I emulated for a long time too until I just had to have a real machine. I'm playing MOD files on it now while tinkering with the command syntax for an application. Fun stuff :) Good luck with getting set up.

Welcome!

Although I liked the Amiga when it came out the 500 is what got me hooked. When they cleared out the A1000s I kick myself for not buying one as they are a neat machine.
