Why would you have to mod a case? Do you mean you want to make it internal to the original Breadbin so the Userport is still available?
I may also rig up some kind of angled user port extender so that the OLED screen can be viewed without bending over the computer.
I guess I'd need to see a sketch to fully understand what you mean by that. Sounds interesting, though!

You mean using an external Commodore modem case from like a 1660 or 1670? Hmm. I am sure it would work but the Commodore modems are much longer. This thing is tiny after all. You can buy 3d Printed cases for the WiModem from a fellow Commodore user here:

What about getting the non-OLED version? Is it really worth the extra $10?

Thoughts?
The OLED is for sure worth the extra $10. It is nice to be able to see status as to what is happening with the WiFi connection, telenet, etc. It is not strictly necessary but it is pretty nice.

Great writeup :) I've just gotten online myself and found a combination of CCGMS and Strike Term got me over the finish line. But it could just have been a problem with the user ;) I was very confused. Here's the manual for the device I set up https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B9OhO5 ... VEU0E/view

Thanks to Sir_Lucas for pointing me to it.

This is the most beautiful Amiga forum in existence. We must mention it in the next episode of the Amiga Ireland podcast (amigausers.ie). <3

Just wanted to give you guys an update. The incoming and outgoing ports can be set with the WiModem. So, you can choose whatever you like. I had to re-write part of the ESP8266 library in order to make this happen. Nobody seemed interested in doing it.

The WiModem-232 will be in production shortly! This FCC certified (no other modem is!) device should be available by the time CRX rolls around (July 28-30). The WiModem-232 uses a DB-25 connector and plugs into any standard RS-232 serial port. You will be able to order which gender connector you want. The Amiga 1000, and basically every other computer on the planet use the same connector. The Amiga 500, 600, 1200, 2000, 2500, 3000, and 4000 are all backwards from the industry standard. You could use the WiModem-232 with a computer that uses a DB-9 connector for serial (instead of a DB-25, like many laptops do) by using an adapter cable. The WiModem-232 has a nice plastic case (which is basically the size of a DB-25 hood) and has a 2.1mm input plug for power. You can use a 5v wall power supply, obtain power from inside of you computer, or even use a 9v battery! There will be no display on this version, The retail price will be $44.95. The WiModem-232 has all of the same features as the original WiModem.

A guy wrote a PC program (WiBridge) that lets you connect to the WiModem to make file transfers between your C64/128 and PC. More information is available here: http://home.reidspace.com/index.php?id=c64-stuff

The WiCopy program is coming along. This C64/128 program will let you search online for .d64 images and then make a real disk in your Commodore disk drive! The reverse will also be possible, so you will be able to make a .d64 from your real disk and upload it a server, or the WiModem itself! The WiModem is capable of storing up to 3MB of data on it! In fact, I am working on a virtual disk drive program that will let you 'mount' the WiModem as a 3MB hard drive. This is similar to Commodore's RAM disk for the REU. There will also be a WiCopy for the Amiga for searching and handling .adf images.

I am in the process of setting up a BBS for CBMSTUFF.COM

Don't forget - if you want to take a great vacation, come to CRX (Commodore Retro eXpo), July 28-30, 2017 in Las Vegas, NV. This will be the largest Commodore event in the U.S. for 2017! Be part of documentary "The Commodore Story", a Kickstarter project that has been fully funded to bring a DVD and book about the history of Commodore, complete with interviews with many Commodore legends, some of which will be on hand at the event. http://www.commodoreretroexpo.com

Don't you mean the Amiga 1000 serial port is backwards and the A500, etc are industry standard?

It is weird that the Amiga 1000 has serial and parallel connectors that are the reverse from the standard. The Parallel port is male when it should be female and the serial port is female when it should be male. I am not sure what they were thinking. The parallel port for IBM PC was standardized DB25F in 1981.

That's my understanding, too, ZippyZapp. The 1000 will support the devices, but you have to get a male/female swap adapter. All the other Amiga models (500, 2000, etc.) are consistent and standard.

Has there been any news on the WiModem-232? I hope it is still coming out as it may be the only one available besides making your own or hoping Paul Rickards does another run of his.

Has anyone else's Wimodem-232 OLED screen suffered screen burn?

Due to the fact it's pretty much powered up all the time, even when my Amiga is turned off, the 'Ready' text has burnt into the display and overall it's become dimmer than it was when new.

It's not a big issue and the modem itself is awesome, does anyone know where I'd get a new display from?

Send an email to Jim Drew at CBMstuff.com as he will probably be able to fix it.

I don't leave mine plugged in but it would be cool if you could wire a switch to it.
