Regarding the A1000's Serial Port-- I seem to recall there being more to it than just the gender being non-standard.

Weren't there some pin assignments that were different or am I confusing that with the A1000 parallel port?

I went through a box of old Amiga parts and found my "Amiga" DB25 serial cable. Specifically, I labeled it the "A1000 serial cable". Sure enough, it is male on both ends so it will mate up with the A1000's serial port and I can connect any female RS-232 modem on the other end.

In truth, there may be nothing special about my cable apart from having male pins on both ends, but from my research, I see the A1000 supplies voltages on three pins: 14, 21 & 23. So as long as none of the modems I wish to attach use these pins for anything, it shouldn't be a problem.

Maybe a simpler question to ask is, are the A1000 and A2000 serial ports identical except for the change in gender? I already know my WiModem232 works fine on the A2000.

It is kind of a shame there isn't an "Amiga 1000" specific version of the WiFi Modem since +5V is supplied on pin 21. No usb power would be necessary. :D

Another difference with the A1000 serial port is pin 22 (Ring Indicator) is not connected. Guess there are no Amiga 1000s being used to run a BBS? ;)

To my knowledge, and experience, the only difference is the gender. I've used a WiFi modem with my A1000 and a gender changer for years now with zero issues.

Thank you both for the replies. I didn't have to muster up too much courage to plug it in and go since Intric8 already proved it will be fine, but I wanted to open the discussion just in case. :)
