Back in the day I had a switch in my rev 6A A500 to swap between PAL and NTSC, there was a jumper on the motherboard allowing for such functionality.

That is/was the main advantage of the 8372 (all versions) over the 8375 (and the old 8370/71 and also the oldest DIP-variants in the 1000 and 2000A). They would do NTSC and PAL, but nevertheless expect a matching crystal for correct TV-compliant timing (read: genlocking).
