Now Running one of the on My Orignal A500+ Machine.

It runs really well, though I do often run out of Chip Ram (A500+ with 1MB on Board). 8 MB fast ram is fine.

I see these have issues with the Fast Ram / Garry Adaptor Memory Upgrade, but wonder if they would work with something like this :-

https://amigastore.eu/711-amiga-500-plu ... nsion.html

To Add and extra 1 MB of chip Ram?
How do you run out of chip ram? Even running an Indivision on my A500 with the Superplus driver for an 800x600 desktop resolution I never ran out of chip ram.
WHDLoad is a chip ram hog.

WHDload is a fastram hog, WHDload shouldn't be making use of chipram.

I think you have your A500 configured incorrectly as I ran WHDload on an A500 with 1MB chipram and 128MB fastram and I never once ran out of chipram.

Chipram is for the custom chipset, the CPU should only make use of chipram if fastram is fully utilized and you should have more than enough fastram for WHDload.

Many games that run normally in 1mb of Chip Ram on bare metal will not run in WHDload.

This has been the case for years...

I ran Cannon Fodder just fine, you must be running out of fastram? With 128MB of fastram I never had an issue. If you run out of fastram the system is going to try to access chipram. You should be able to reduce this dependency by disabling the feature that allows you to hit a key to drop back to the desktop.

It is common knowledge that whdload is a chip Ram hog. If you have an Amiga 500 plus then I would suggest getting the one megabyte chip ram upgrade for the trapdoor. Another thing that would help, would be moving a lot of workbench things that load on bootup to fast Ram. Whdload will run on one meg of Chip Ram, but with games that are more than one disc you may have difficulty.

Boot an Amiga 1000 to an interlaced 16-colour Workbench. Speaking of which, where's our Rejuvenator?

Well that's a bit different as the A1000 only has 512k chipram max.

Chipram shouldn't be used if you have enough fastram, I would have thought any more than 8mb fastram would have been plenty for WHDload with the ability to hit a key and drop back to the desktop.

I ran WHDload on an A500 for quite some time using a huge number of titles and never once ran out of chip ram running 800x600 superplus mode via my Indivision, but I had 128mb of fastram.

The only reason I went to an A1200 was for a true 32bit bus to overcome blitter wait issues running WHDload on an OCS/ECS Amiga.

Both titles mentioned in your link, Cannon Fodder as well as wizkid, were released with updated slaves reducing the chipram requirement to 1MB years ago. I checked the ReadMe for both slaves.

Make sure to download your titles from WHDownload and always download the latest version. 1MB chipram shouldn't be an issue anymore with newer accelerator cards with masses of fast ram, as stated most slaves should have been updated years ago.

Well,I just got my Classic520 in the mail the other day and I have to say that this is probably one of the BEST accelerator solutions I've ever seen.

This Board gives your A500....
1. Motorola 68EC020 @ 28mhz
2. 8 Megs of Fast Ram
3. Flash Rom ability
4. CF card slot for bootable HDD support
5. SD card Slot Hot Swapable with FAT32 Support
6. 40pin IDE support for CDrom Option

It's fast and smooth. booted right up from my already existing CF card (Originally made for the HC508)
Games run great and WHDload Compatibility is awesome. Obliterator by Psygnosis runs great.

Price for the USA was about $202.00 shipped.
Well worth the money in my opinion.
I understand these also work with the A1000 flawlessly... Who did you purchase from?
