I think that "red" is not intentionally red but caused by the defective Denise, who is, in fact, in charge of video output.

Intentional "red" is only used when the checksum of the Kickstart ROM is wrong.

I would also like to add (discovered through experience) that a WHITE screen could indicate there is something wrong with the interrupt system. Interrupts are multiplexed by Paula before being sent to the CPU so check Paula and the socket.
The interrupts can easily checked with DIAGROM.

Check the Agnus chip and maybe re-seat it. I have seen in the past orange screens on A1000 relating to the Agnus. Just a guess really as I am sure it could be other things. But since it is a color screen some parts of the system are working so it should be fixable.

The colors don't always mean the same things. Please check out that pdf from commodore and it has more specific trouble shooting for colors on the screen on bootup.

My Amiga 1000 kept hanging on the light gray screen when trying to boot kickstart after being in storage for many years. I spent a bit of time with a logic analyzer and the online disassembled V1.2 kickstart and found that it was in an infinite interrupt loop (level 1). At first I thought it might be a problem with Paula setting one of the interrupt lines but that didn't seem to be the case. After some probing I discovered that one of the CPU socket pins wasn't making contact with the IPL0 signal of the CPU. I bent the IPL0 pin a little bit and was able to get the machine to boot up! The CPU socket was likely worn by my use of a Lucas accelerator board many years ago.

Wow, not bad. I had to search it myself a few times but now that everything is here it's much easier!
