I just got an Amiga 1000 without Kickstart and Workbench Diskettes. Who can help me with this. I don’t have a second Amiga to create these Diskettes. Where can I buy them? Did not find any for sale on EBay.

Please help I want to fire this Baby up and try some games.

Thanks in advance.

Andy

Hi Andy4sandy, I may be able to help you. I'll send you a PM later today after I've caffeinated.

I can tell you that I was once in your shoes, however, and learning how to make Amiga disks is a key thing to figure out (there are multiple ways, of course, for transferring files).

Here's how I do it old school with my Amiga 2000.
Here is a short video where I explain the process, too.

But those articles aren't 100% applicable for the old A1000 since she typically doesn't have a hard drive. I'll make disks with my 2000 and use them on my various 1000 machines.

I'll send you a PM in a bit. (FWIW, getting a hard drive on an A1000 is the least straight-forward of all of the Amigas if you stick with the original 1.3 Kickstart, but a worthy endeavor for sure).

Hello Intric,

Thanks for your reply. Unfortunately I sold my German Amiga (some 20 years ago). I just got my new NTSC Amiga 1000 last week. Somehow I remembered the good old times in the 80/90 when I had my Amiga and saw an auction on Ebay for an Amiga 1000. In the 80s I had no money to buy this machine, although I always wanted one. In Europe they were expansive like hell.

Anyways I have no clue how to use a Floppy Emu, like I use for all my vintage Apples, with an Amiga 1000 since this machine has no permanent Rom. I know a Floppy Emu is no big deal with all other Amigas, but I have found no matching Floppy Emu for my Amiga 1000.

I was thinking to get a Vampire Card, but I am not sure if they even work with an Amiga 1000?

BTW. I live in Michigan now, no longer in Good Old Germany.

Thanks again for your help. Lieben Dank fuer Deine Hilfe.

Andy

Hi Andy,
you might consider this one

I have one and love it. Some very specific copy protection might not work but so far I haven't encountered any.

Klasse Gerät :) .

Thanks for the info. Do they ship to the US? Can it boot as DF0?

Thanks

Afair they do ship to the USA.

The device itself can not be used as DF0: . You would need an additional PCB for that.

However, all Amigas can boot from DF1: .

Again, some few games might not work because they have hard coded to start from DF0:

In the long run you might want to consider a full replacement for your drive.

The Vampire will indeed work with the Amiga 1000 and essentially put kickstart in ROM for you, too.

You will only need to raise the 68000 socket with pin headers or utilize one of the many available relocators for it to fit inside.

No I think you have to order them from the Apollo team's website. I think folks typically squeeze the A500 model into the 1000.
