I know this seems trivial, but I've been looking for one of these things FOREVER.
At the end of the day, I usually had a side-car expansion RAM in mine, so it didn't matter.
But once I put 8MB of RAM in my A1000 internally, I no longer needed (or could use) the sidecar RAM.
So, off it came. And then that hole was staring at me again. I had been using an awful 3D printed door I bought last year for the hole, but it was a pretty crappy print. It's not the designer's fault - the 3D printed materials are simply too thick, too brittle and just very coarse. I was planning on eventually sanding it down and painting it to better match the A1000, but look.
As soon as I put it into my machine's case (earlier in 2017) on the first attempt one of the plastic bits that hold it in place instantly broke off and flew across the room. So typical with these 3D printed things these days. Sigh...
But then, after a long time searching in vain, I broke a deal with fellow AmigaLove member @mattsoft. Some other gear was exchanged and "along for the ride" came this small strip of unassuming plastic. It doesn't look like much, but holy smoke!
It looks so good when it's in place. Man this machine looks sweet now, doesn't it?
Now I just need to find a second one. For the Phoenix.
Feels like, anyway. And no one just sells these things separately. If you're really really lucky, you might get one when you buy an A1000, but usually there's just a giant hole there on the side of your machine, as most of these things got lost ages ago. Once a family added some RAM to their machines, these little bits just got thrown into desk drawers and lost to the sands of time.
