I've scored one more A1000, my fourth (and final). This one is going to make me sell one of my previous finds which was in perfect working condition but apparently left out in the desert sun. A bit yellow.

This one, however, is absolutely perfect. There is only the very slightest of tints on the right side of the keyboard, and I can only see it if I look at it in the right angle under the right lighting conditions.

I quickly flipped it over to open it and put in one of MKL's 68000 RAM boards. That's when it struck me: I don't think this machine has ever been opened before. Every screw looks completely virgin (that sounds weird).

I put the RAM inside and snapped it all back together. Just look at her. Pure perfection.

I'm done source A1000s for now. Time to purge again. Just in time for another really strange find that is on its way that I can't wait to share with you guys. :)

There is a teensy tiny nick on the left front cover. That's the only real defect I can find on this thing. Who cares?! She's gorgeous :)

Behold! The mythical expansion cover!

She really likes her new 8MB of 68000 socket RAM.

Front expansion removed. Pure 8MB installed. Yum.

Wonderful! A 'virgin'-like machine always has something magical, especially the A1000.

On a technical note - I thought the front expansion gave ChipRAM and the MKL 8MB were FestRAM??

I'll have to check sysinfo and see what it says. I could always put the front back in, but didn't figure it needed it. Now I wonder...

You’re too used to being low on chip RAM, lol. You do indeed only have 256k without it.

Ah, OK that's good to know. It's true... I'm on the Phoenix so much these days, it's good to go.

The reason I took it out to begin with is the original owner said it would sometimes take 15-20 minutes for the machine to "warm up" before it would recognize the front expansion RAM. I figured the RAM was either on the way out, or the contacts were dirty. After I popped it off, the contacts looks totally fine. So I put the RAM aside thinking, "Well, maybe this is going flaky".

I have a few extra front expansions, so I'll put one of my others back in there. Then it'll be at a total of 8.5MB, with .5 chip. Not too shabby, old girl. Not too shabby.
