Hey friends, I have an A1000 with Rejuvenator v2 and Parceiro 2. I'm a bit of an A1000 noob. Is there a way to get a CD-ROM hooked up to this computer? Thanks!

This is an interesting question that I've never pondered before. I'm sure there are users here who might give you a very sussinct and informative answer but here I go:

The usual way of connecting a CD-rom to an Amiga is through SCSI, but you lack that in your current setup. There were made quite a few parallel-CD roms back in the day but those are expensive and hard to find (though probably not harder then a SCSI-controller for the A1000). I suspect there are drivers out there like AsimCD that might contain the software to get such a device up and running, but you might need to be running a newer OS then WB1.3. Which OS are you on?

Have you considered that this is crazy and not worth pursuing? ;)
If the answer is yes, and you're nuts enough to go down this rabbit hole then I would look at Parallell CDroms. Note that you would need an adapter to turn the A1000 parallell port into a normal parallell-port as that thing is a bit lopsided. Those adapters can be found on AmiBay (https://www.amibay.com/threads/useful-a ... ers.72968/).

One more solution that I just thought of:
You could get an internal IDE going for your A1000. There are IDE-controllers that plug into your CPU socket (IDE68k). If you want to autoboot from an IDE device you might need a modified kickstart rom (if you're on 1.3), but those can also be purchased online. You could use a long IDE cable to hook up an external IDE cdrom powered through a separate external PSU, but this is a pretty messy approach.

My advice would be to not do this, but to rather look for an A2000 or something down the line If you want a CDrom machine. The A1000 is capable of a lot of cool things but it lacks the internal expandability to house an internal drive and it lacks the external connectivity to easily hook up a CDrom today.

There was the A570 CD-ROM, probably a bit rare but isn't the connector on the right side of the A1000 the same as the connector on the A500, only upside-down? It would block the Parceiro of course. Might be best just to copy the contents of the CD-ROM to the Parceiro SD and force yourself to count to 100 every time you access a file

Sorry for parachuting a question and then leaving - SoCal here and the fires have been ... a distraction :P

Ya know, I didn't realize it was so complicated! Like I said, A1000 noob. But I am also nuts in a variety of ways and am not deterred. I may shoot for the parallel port option here as it really just sounds pretty neat to play around with. One possible wrinkle here is that I was hoping to get a Plipbox for my A1000 so I can do some BBSing, but there's no reason I can pick which one of these options seems more interesting prior to booting and just install the appropriate hardware. I was reading that these folks have an A1000 Plipbox specifically - https://amiga68k.com/?product=plipbox-deluxe-commodore - which (naturally) is out of stock anyway rendering that problem moot for the time being :)

Interesting, but yeah, on the "pretty messy" part, that might deter me a bit here. Additionally I have an ICD AdPro and am not sure how much I can realistically sandwich onto that CPU connector lol.

Fair points! And I have an A4000 and A1200 (as well as an X5000) for all the CD-ROM things. I really just figured this would be simple, but since it's not...ugh dangit the hardheaded part of me wants to do it anyway hahaha. Thanks for the help here :)

Haha. I wonder if David would be amenable to making an updated Parceiro with a passthru connector for something like this. Can't hurt to ask :P

I just use a WiFi modem, with a gender changer. Works perfectly with 64Door, A-Talk III and other terminals. Typing on the A1K's keyboard hits all the right buttons, too, pun intended.

I ... doubt it. That would open up a whole new can of worms of potential device conflicts and a total support rabbit hole, seems like.

Off-Topic:
Hope you and yours stay safe down there. We've had 2 very close families we've known for over twenty years (attended our wedding in '03, and knew them from before that) who both lost their homes in the Altadena/Eaton fire. Homes those families raised their kids in - just gone. Really tragic stuff going on down there.

Back in the day I had a Rejuvenator and a CDTV and I slaved the CDTV to the Amiga using Parnet so the Amiga could read files directly. The details are pretty hazy but I remember it worked to some degree.
Alternately any slap-on-the-side SCSI expansion would allow you to use CD ROM drives assuming you have a CD file system and an external SCSI CD ROM Drive.
If you have the ability to add clock ports to your A1000, you can use USB CD-ROM drives under Poseidon. I know nothing about Parceiro but maybe it has this. Freeway GBA1000 might work on the side expansion slot of a 1000 (have not tried this) but it has no pass-through so that would block Parceiro.
