I'm not too sure whether anyone's aware of it, but the 1541 Ultimate II+, and I assume 1541 Ultimate II as well as Ultimate 64's are now capable of communication via the Ethernet port using UltimateTerm V2.3 - And damn is it fast.

Even better is the fact that UltimateTerm also comes bundled with a fully featured IRC client for the C64 called UntimateChat 64 v1.3 and it works a treat! Just don't try to send more than two lines of text at a time or the software appears to hang.

I'm pretty sure I'm retiring my user port WiFi modem...

Thanks, will try.
Great that we are able to use ethernet on 1541 Ultimate II+

It's brilliant! No need to even set baud rate, as far as I can tell it just runs as fast as the Ethernet port (or CPU) can handle.

Which is far faster than a WiFi modem connected to the user port.

I was wondering last night laying in bed whether I could use the Ethernet port on the 1541 UII+ to play the Retro Rogue Multiplayer game for the C64? That'd be pretty cool.

I've often wanted something like this, but my 'retro room' (RR) is on a different floor than my WiFi/Cable Modem. So all of my retro gear depends on WiFi to get online.

I've thought recently about looking into a wifi repeater that has ethernet jacks as a potential solution to get some of the ethernet ports working in the RR. Then I'd be able to get my Powerbook online again, and potentially one of my A3000's later this year (more on that on another day - can't wait to show you guys!).

Anyone have experience with WiFi Repeaters with Ethernet? Worth investigating?

Is UltimateTerm something built in to the U2+ or is it a program you have to run from the usb stick?

@obitus it looks to be a small program we can download and install to the SD card. Just like any other term.

(Side note: if the Ultimate ever supported the 1571/1581 in 128 mode, my hair might catch on fire.)

Agreed...I might be persuaded to actually take my 128 out of its box and use it if that happened.
