One of the greatest games ever made for C64 actually shipped in digital form in early 2023: A Pig Quest.

Immediately downloadable for €9.99 (or more), pre-orders for a physical boxed version started in mid-February of 2023. I placed my own order for this magnificent achievement in Commodore gaming history the day the game was released. I knew right then and there what we had on our screens was jaw-droppingly special.

Fast-forward to over 1 year 7 months later...

Gorgeous and very solid full-color box cover.

Back of the box doesn't disappoint, either.

The manual is short, but the quality looks and feels like a high-end modern comic book.

I nearly missed it, but the inside of the front cover is also beautifully illustrated - a sincerely delightful surprise!

Part of me cringes when I splurge on physical cartridges in 2024 because deep down I realize I may be receiving something that will get a digital update after the fact. Since this game took so long to ship I feel like I might be OK. But I've watched the game being played on Twitch and realize the actual game *might* be different than the downloadable version. Hard to say. Guess we'll find out! (maybe)

Inside the box there is a comical little plastic hammer, which represents one of the weapons you’ll use in the game. Very cute. All of it just drips with professionalism and class and a care for packaging quality we just see (or expect) much these days anymore. I love it.

If you've not seen this game, or played it, I can't recommend getting the digital download more highly. Note: this game is very hard no doubt about it. But you'll keep coming back for more until you master a level and get to the next stage. Just don't turn off the computer! (gulp)

Game specs and features:
  • 200 screens across 5 worlds
  • Dynamic environment & weather
  • A dazzling 36 situational SID tunes
  • Cinematic cutscenes
  • Secret areas
  • Cartridge only (1MB) (so, if you download it you'll need an Ultimate II+ or something similar)
  • Fully PAL/NTSC and GS compatible, with support for second fire button
